True or False: hospitals are Government funded and, therefore, do not need private funds from donations.
False.
The Government does not fully fund healthcare in our community hospital – that’s where our Hospital Foundation comes in.
St. Joseph’s Hospital Foundation uses private funds (like donations and gifts in the will) to bridge the gap between Government funding and the greater needs of our hospital.
The excellent healthcare you see in our community is a result of a combination of Government and private funding, and private donations allow our Hospital Foundation to purchase much-needed technology and equipment as quickly as possible to meet the needs of everyone in the Comox Valley, from first breath to end of life.
To improve the quality of healthcare in the Comox Valley, private funds are, and will continue to be, critical to our community with the opening of the new Comox Valley Hospital and the continuance of seniors’ care at St. Joseph’s.
With this growth of our healthcare system, your donations are more important than ever and can help change the life of so many people you know – family members, friends, neighbours and co-workers.
How can you help support Comox Valley healthcare?
Charitable Donations: You can donate any amount of money at any time to our Hospital Foundation, by cheque, cash, credit card, online donations or over the phone. These donations can be designated to a particular department such as Maternal Child or go to our general fund called Areas of Greatest Need, and can be made in the memory of a loved one.
Planned Giving: A bequest made to St. Joseph’s Hospital Foundation makes a difference in all of our lives. A person intending to make a donation in their estate plan has several available options to explore. Options may include leaving a gift in a will, or naming our Foundation as the beneficiary of life insurance proceeds, RRSP or RRIF funds or publicly traded securities.
Organize an Event: Third-party events are a great way for individuals, companies and service clubs to give back to their community. These events can be big or small, and can raise money for non-profits in a number of ways, from a raffle or admission to a show by donation, silent auctions or proceeds from sales.
Sponsorship Opportunities: Companies will sometimes have the opportunity to sponsor one of our Fundraising events, such as the Comox Community Centre Spin-a-Thon or the HollisWealth Annual St. Joseph’s Hospital Foundation Golf Classic.
Product/Promotional Donations: To raise awareness for our Foundation, we regularly participate in social media giveaways using donated ‘swag’ and product from local companies. Donating products or gift certificates to our Foundation for these giveaways help us increase our profile in the community, while we recognize a business for its generosity to our wide audience.
Volunteering: Volunteer on our behalf at any of our events! Contact katherine.maximick@viha.ca to learn how.
Your generosity can make a big difference for many. Thank you for supporting Comox Valley healthcare.
