Look at the joy on these faces! Mindy, Brian and their two children are a Comox Valley family who understand how special it is to spend time together and to live in a community with good access to specialty healthcare services. With gratitude for the great care Mindy has received locally and with hope to inspire giving, the couple has given us permission to share some of their story.

In 2020, an MRI revealed that Mindy had a brain tumor. During the COVID-19 global shutdown without the comfort of Brian or other family members at her bedside, she underwent brain surgery, radiation and chemotherapy out of town. It was an incredibly difficult and scary time.

Since then, Mindy has been able to do all of her other cancer treatments locally, from chemotherapy once a month at the hospital’s Wellness Centre, obtaining medication from the hospital pharmacy, and blood work from the lab. The Medical Imaging Department play a huge role in Mindy’s care as, in addition to detecting the tumor, they provide regular scans to inform her ongoing treatment.

Mindy and Brian both speak of the peace they feel knowing Mindy’s care is handled close to home, they describe it as LIFE CHANGING.
