Totem Riders hosted an event and collected money to support Maternity and Pediatric patients at the Hospital
The Totem Riders Motorcycle Club presented a cheque for $2,500 to the Comox Valley Healthcare Foundation on March 9, 2018 to purchase a Bili Meter for Labour & Delivery at the new North Island Hospital Comox Valley campus. Funds were raised from their annual event “The Halloween Howl” .
The Totem Riders Motorcycle Club and Ron Fortin have donated over $50,000 since 1994 to help purchase new technology and medical equipment to support Newborn and Pediatric patients. This year the donation will support the purchase of a Bili Meter.
“Bili Meters” are a device used to measure bilirubin levels and is often used in neonatal intensive units to screen newborns for jaundice. The analyzers either detect bilirubin levels in blood or serum samples or record skin reflectance measurements, which virtually eliminates the costs, trauma, and time associated with blood draws. The new technology analyzers are priced at $ 8,025 and are also used to keep track of the baby’s heart rate during pregnancy, labour and delivery, and let caregivers know how the baby is doing.
This ongoing partnership with CVHF will be recognized on the Foundation’s new Donor Wall which is located in the lobby of the Hospital.
“We are so thankful for Totem Riders continuing support of local healthcare needs,” said Lynn Dashkewytch, Executive Director at CVHF. “The riders have been a great community partner for over 20 years, supporting the purchase of new equipment, as well as providing stuffed toys for children, toiletry packs and other essentials for ER that are needed to enhance patient comfort. “Our Foundation is so grateful for the clubs generosity and desire to make a difference in the lives of others”.
