Sybil and David married in 1940 and lived a life full of adventure and love together. Sybil found her passion as a teacher, inspiring students every day. David was also a teacher when they met, before joining the Armed Forces where he landed on Normandy Beach on D-Day plus one. After the war, David continued to serve his country for over twenty-five years rising to the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. Upon retiring from the military, David returned to his passion for teaching.
Sybil was known for her wit and easy smile. She was described as, “The most colorful person in a room, (who) charmed anyone who was lucky enough to meet her.” David was known as a kind, gentle, generous person, who inspired many people. Together, they made an incredible impact on the lives of those around them.
David was originally from Cumberland and his mother lived at Cumberland Lodge for many years. When David and Sybil planned their estates, they decided to leave a bequest to the Lodge in honour of the care his mother received.
Their generosity will continue to support care for seniors in our community for years to come.
